jon & kate plus 8

Jon & Kate Plus 8 is one of my favorite shows. I tried to do an Internet search to find out what type of picnic tables they own. My search has so far been unsuccessful and that's because there are way too many message boards, blogs, etc. where people spend their time complaining about Jon & Kate's parenting skills, psychoanalyzing their marriage, and writing mean things about the kids. What horrible people.

While I believe that Jon & Kate chose to expose their family to this public scrutiny, it doesn't excuse the people who chose to write such ill things about the children. I saw thread topics where people called individual children obnoxious, where they wrote about one of the 3(!) year olds being chunkier than the others, where they called one of the girls homely, one where they talked about how one 3(!) year old pushed the other, etc.

Goodness knows what these people would say about me and my family! Too bad we can't put hidden cameras in their homes...

Ducks on the Dan Derby Duck Race

The South Boston-Halifax Junior Woman's Club has teamed up with Destination Downtown South Boston in a fundraiser entitled "Ducks on the Dan Derby Duck Race."

Participants can adopt as many ducks as they like by adopting them online through the South Boston - Halifax Junior Woman's Club website. The ducks will be released into the Dan River on May 17th in conjunction with a Family Fun Day. The first ducks that cross the finish line win great prizes, such as $5000 cash, vacation packages, an LCD large screen tv, and more... (Winners need not be present to win.)

The ducks cost $5.00 each to adopt and packages are available for multiple purchases. The JWC's website, www.sobojwc.com, has a link where you can adopt ducks. Please feel free to adopt a duck directly from our page. We're in a contest with other groups, and if you adopt a duck directly from our page, the JWC gets a little credit from each purchase.

**The local fire department will be cleaning up the ducks and any litter caused by the fundraiser, so we will be keeping the river clean, and DDSB has a permit from the Corps of Engineers to use the river for this event.**
