favorite new shows

It's been quite a few years since I had so many new shows I enjoyed. Here are this year's new favorites:

Masters of Horror

My Name is Earl

How I Met Your Mother

It's the little things in life, like fun tv shows, that make me happy.

today's excitement

Imagine a picture in this spot. It's not letting me add a picture right now b/c the server is "busy." Whatever. If you want to see the pics click on my Flickr badge to see them on Flickr.

Extreme Home Makeover has been working on a house near my school this week so today some of us "skipped school" for about a 1/2 hour to check out the house. Today is the "big reveal" day and we were hoping to catch a glimpse of Ty but apparently things were running a few hours behind schedule so they weren't quite ready to do the reveal. We did talk briefly to the guy whose house it was (he was way down the road standing outside a limo). I've only seen one episode of the show but I guess I'll have to keep my eyes out for this episode and check it out.

Such exciting things in our small rural town.

Here's a link to the local paper's story on it (added 10/31)

Casey's personality

Right now I am pondering animal cruelty. Not so much in a depressing way but more in a "How idiotic can some people be?" type of way. There are people who treat animals inhumanely out of cruelty and then there are those who do it because they don't think animals deserve decent treatment. The people who think that animals are unintelligent and have no emotional characteristics or personality traits baffle me.

I'm watching my beagle, Casey, run up and down the stairs and I can't help but be amazed at how intelligent she is (and that's more than just a proud mama bias). It's an hour until her dinnertime and she thinks that I'm the one who is stupid and doesn't realize it's time to feed her. We go through this everyday. She runs around and tries to "lure" me into the kitchen to feed her. If I'm sorting laundry she might grab a sock and run into the kitchen with it. If I'm watching tv she'll jump, nip at the air and then run towards the kitchen. In her mind she thinks she can trick me into the kitchen by making me think I'm playing with her. She has more intelligence then some people I've met and definitely more personality!

I will never understand how anyone can say animals don't have distinct personalities, display intelligence or deserve ethical treatment.

They just need to spend 10 minutes in my house and meet Miss. Casey!

post secret

The card's reverse says "BUT I LOVE HER ANYWAYS"

Disclaimer: My sister has not had an abortion. The infertility theme just fits my thoughts right now.

The adoption drama continues. I feel like everything that can go wrong with this process has. Sometimes the sadness is overwhelming. I know it is not permanent. Neither happiness nor sadness stays around forever.

I should have remembered that when I felt so elated this weekend over purchasing a crib.

It makes me a little less lonely to see these postcards posted on this week's Post Secret.

It's hard feeling like everyone else in the world is successful at this and I just keep failing. I've never been good at failing and it's especially hard when it's the most important thing in my life.

I don't know what else to write. If you haven't been there it's unimaginable how much it hurts.

where somebody waits for me

Barbara posted about Joe Cocker's version of "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window" and now I'm in a Joe Cocker mood. I love his versions of "Have a Little Faith in Me" and "With a Little Help from My Friends" but one of my all time favorite songs is his "Bye Bye Blackbird."

Pack up all my cares and woes
feeling low here I go
Bye Bye blackbird

Where somebody waits for me
sugar sweet so is she
Bye Bye Blackbird

No one seems to love or understand me
and all the hard luck stories they keep handing me
where somebody shines the light
I'll be coming on home tonight
Bye Bye Blackbird

Nobody seems to love or understand me
and all the hard luck stories they keep on handing me
where somebody shines the light
I'm coming on home tonight
Bye Bye Blackbird

This is one of those songs I feel deep inside me. One of those love songs that's sad and soulful without being depressing. He puts so much emotion into the song that I can't even read the words without hearing him in my head. One of those songs that made me love my husband before I even met him.

Chewbacca becomes a citizen

Chewbacca is now an American citizen.

If he wanted to marry a Texan and become a citizen, I was ready years ago.

mind control

I'm concerned that not everyone I know is taking the current mind control threat seriously. Please visit the site below to learn about an important step you can take to combat mind control.

AFDB - Aluminum Foil Deflector Beanie

Please remember when assembling your own beanie to make sure the shiny side is facing out. The shiny side better reflects psychotronic radiation.

trees laying all over our yard

We paid to have five trees chopped down today. That's all our budget can afford right now. They're now laying all over the yard (Steven worked something out where it would cost less if he took care of them once they're down) and we only have about 7 billion left to worry about!

The joys of being a homeowner...

digging to China

After the Sesame Street special where Big Bird and company dug to China my friends and I tried to do the same. We dug some decent sized holes for elementary school children but never quite reached it. Now I've learned that we wouldn't have even made it to China but instead would have ended up in Australia (as should have Big Bird since I think Sesame Street is in NYC)!

Using this site you too can find out where you would "come out" if you dug a hole all the way through the earth.

Start digging!

"five minute break"

My sister sent me one of those e-mail surveys today. I decided to actually play along this time but instead of sending it out I'll just post my answers here.

1. When you look at yourself in the mirror, what's the first thing you look at?
usually my teeth

2. How much cash do you have on you?
probably less than $10

3. What's a word that rhymes with "TEST"?
guess I can't copy Barbara's... I'll go with west

4. Favorite plant?
used to be dandelions, now that I'm a homeowner I can't say that - it's definitely not pine trees either, so I'll go with a hydrangea

5. Who is the 4th person on your missed call list on your cell phone?
Tammy

6. What is your main ring tone on your phone?
I guess this assumes you have something fancy. I don't pay for my cell so I just have the standard choices. Apparently have "firefly."

7. What shirt are you wearing?
I've already changed out of my work clothes so I'm currently wearing a very large, purple `94 Phish t-shirt.

8. Do you "label" yourself?
usually, no

9. Name brand of your shoes currently wearing?
not wearing any

10. Bright or Dark Room?
I can't stand dark rooms unless I'm sleeping or have no clothes on.

11. What do you think about the person who took this survey before you?
love her bunches, she's one of my heros

12. Do you know what an 8-track is?
yes - I was first introduced to the Beatles on an 8 track

13. What were you doing at midnight last night?
in a deep deep sleep thanks to the cold meds

14. What did your last text message you received on your cell phone say?
Go Hokies! (I'm a little jealous of Barbara though since nobody has ever given me the cell or home phone number for Mars. I'm just not cool enough.)

15. Do you ever click on Pop-ups or banners?
never, coincidentally, I just did a lesson today with my 4th and 5th graders where we discussed the bad things that can happen when you click on them

16.What's a saying that you say a lot?
grrrrr

17. Who told you they loved you last?
in person, Steven, but I just read an e-mail from Melissa that said it

18. Last furry thing you touched?
my dogs

19. How many hours a week do you work?
I refuse to count them, it just depresses me

20. How many rolls of film do you need to get developed?
none

21.Favorite age you have been so far?
19/20, but I'm really happy with my age now, too

22. Your worst enemy?
I can't answer this question in a public forum. She works too hard to make life difficult for everyone around her and on the off chance she would stumble across this...

23. What is your current desk top picture?
a Tony DiTerlizzi illustration from "The Spider and the Fly"

24. What was the last thing you said to someone?
"Could you cut off the machine, cut off the lights and pull the doors closed behind you when you're done?" (I've picked up the phrase "cut off" over the past few years. I hate it, but it's become a habit.)

25. If you had to choose between a million bucks or to be able to erase all of your regrets, what would you choose?
MILLION BUCKS - easy, without my regrets I wouldn't have the good stuff either

I'm working on my list (currently I have 6 goals), are you working on yours?
